http://www.amomshelpinghandofswfl.com/seek-in-the-city.html How Your Kids – Or You! – Can Help Kids with Less Put a Birthday in a Box! A Concrete, Hands-on Way to Give ![]() It’s hard for many of us – adults or children – to imagine celebrating a child’s birthday without a party or presents. But for many of the families we serve, finding the extra money to afford a child’s birthday celebration is a struggle at best, and frequently impossible. AMHH Birthday Box Program is designed to help these families by providing a small “party in a box” for a child in need… and at the same time gives children with “more” the opportunity to learn empathy in a concrete way by helping another child. The idea is to decorate and fill shoe boxes with everything needed for a small birthday party. (Or, pretty, gift bags can be used instead.) Each box goes to a different child. You or your child can make one birthday box for one child, or a class, scout group, church or synagogue group can put together many boxes for a group of children. If you are making a lot of boxes, PLEASE make them for a variety of ages! To start, email us at amomshelpinghand@yahoo.com and let us know if you’re making fewer than five boxes, or if you’re making a larger number. We can give you a list of ages and gender of children currently enrolled in our program. DIRECTIONS: (For a printable version, click link at bottom of page.) Pick an age (or ages), and choose either boy(s) or girl(s) to send your box to. (For example, you might choose a 9-year-old girl, or a 4-year-old boy.) Find a large sneaker-sized shoe box, and buy the things needed for a party. (Or use a pretty birthday shopping bag.) Include:

The Birthday Box Program may qualify as a community service requirement for your child’s scout troop, school, church or temple. ![]()
A Mom's Helping Hand of SWFL depends on support from the community, especially in the form of donations. ![]() As the end of the year closes in, time is running out on tax deductible donations. About 35% of American's take advantage of the sizable benefits the IRS offers to tax payers who give to Exempt Charitable Organizations. These tax incentives are significant, amounting to as much as 50% of your adjusted gross income. For many tax payers, it’s by leveraging these tax benefits that they can give more generously to charities. It makes them feel good and with their larger gift, it enables the charities they support to do more. Now, that’s a good thing. At A Mom's Helping Hand of SWFL, the needs for support continue to increase. Please consider keeping us in mind as you make your end-of-year donation. Given that the vast majority of Americans claim to give to charities but just less than 35% of tax payers claim their charitable donations on their tax return, you may want to make sure they know the benefits! Simply enter the amount you'd like to give and your federal tax bracket (see chart). The calculator will display the net cost of the donation and the tax savings. You may be surprised to learn that you can afford to be even more generous than you thought. To easily calculate the tax savings for a donation of any amount, use the Charity Navigator Calculator found here. ![]() Monthly Donation A Mom's Helping Hand of SWFL depends on support from the community, especially in the form of donations. Monthly donations begin at a minimum of $5/month. It is your choice, as a donor, to determine whether you’d like your donation to go towards a specific program or the overall organization. Your monthly donations will provide our mothers with the programs, services, and funds they need to be successful. Our mothers will have a chance to get training, tolietries, clothing, emergency financial support, school supplies for their children, and birthday party supplies for their children. Your help can give a mother a second chance, a new lease on life. To become a monthly donor, please click here to access our donation page. Click to Donate Donate Office Space As a charity organization, there are some items we need but costs are high. With donated office space, we will be able to stretch our funding much farther to assist single mothers in need of our help. It was an amazing year. We adopted 37 families and made sure 82 kids had something under their tree. For many of these families it means their children woke up to a Christmas they otherwise may not have had. Here's a small look at what our families had to say: Thank you to your organization for making this happen! Also, thank you to whomever adopted my family! You made a big difference and I am so grateful for your generosity. My daughter had a wonderful, wonderful Christmas because of you! I know many other single parent families were blessed and for those of us who struggle to get through each month, the help providing a little extra for our children goes such a long way! So thank you to everyone who adopted families for Christmas and also to everyone who donates all year! Merry Christmas! - Lesley

If you’ve walked in to any store recently, you may have noticed that Christmas decorations, trees, lights and all the trim have already started making their way to the shelves and floors. It’s been an ongoing trend that Christmas preparations seem to start earlier and earlier each year. This is the perfect time to start thinking about local families that might need a bit of extra help this festive season.
That’s where A Mom’s Helping Hand of SWFL comes in. The organization organizes a family adoption each year at Christmas time for single mother families who are struggling in some way. It could be through financial hardship or just getting by and Christmas is just not possible, often through no fault of their own. The families are carefully screened and partake in a support group program on a regular basis. These families can use a bit of extra support this Christmas, and people can ‘adopt’ a family, putting together a festive package for them to lighten the load a little this Christmas. Lisa is a repeat supporter and says, “We are so excited to be doing this again. Last year our single mom's wish list for Christmas was an oil change, 2 bowls so she can eat a meal with her daughter, and yoga pants and her little girl wished for a pillow. A PILLOW! My heart just shattered, I cried about it for days. We are so blessed to have what we have and can't imagine families going without food and basic necessities, especially around the holidays. We had so much fun last year and helping this family with their list and extras for them to enjoy and also their Christmas meal. We are all human beings, and I strongly feel the need to help other single moms in need. I have been in those shoes years ago and understand the struggle and heartache." AMHH asks that adopters purchase gifts for a family they select from the charity’s list, which is posted on their website. Donations could include “non-perishable Christmas food items, personal care items, table decorations, plus unwrapped gifts for each member of the 'adopted' family.” While most of the families have been added, a few are expected to be added between now and October 20th. The items should be unwrapped so the parents can share in the fun too. Some families have special wrapping paper and others just want to feel a part of the process. The donation deadline is December 10th.
